August 31, 2010

We had an assembly this afternoon to kick off the walk-a-thon, our PTSO fundraiser.  Students are bringing home a packet today that gives detailed information about that event. We also learned at the assembly that we have the opportunity to submit names for our mascot.  If you have any great ideas for our eagle's name please share them with your child and we might be able to pass them along.

Assignments: english - worksheet on sentences;  math - lesson 5;  journal - "The Great Puzzle" project; science - time line of continental drift.  This afternoon we sunk our fifth battleship so tomorrow we are having an activity.  The students and I are going to take a break from social studies and play kickball instead.  The class earned this activity by being on task and demonstrating appropriate behavior.  I really do have super students!!!

August 30, 2010

We had our first full day of content.  This morning the journal prompt was, "What do you do when the electricity goes out?"  We had a math assignment lesson 4; english assignment lesson 1; and a science assignment The Great Puzzle.  It was a great day.  We sunk another battleship and have hit the fifth one.  We have almost earned out first class activity for great behavior.  Yeah!!!!

August 27, 2010

The second day was even better than the first.  We were able to get right into the routine with several things and we sunk two ships in our battleship game.  Today the students were assigned Math page 3 odd and pages 6-7 even problems. This is the first assignment that has some homework, I'm hopeful that everyone will have it finished and returned tomorrow.  Many students asked if they need to take it home to be looked at and signed by a parent.  I don't require that, but will certainly encourage any students who make that arrangement with their parents to take their assignments home each day.
Tomorrow is the first full day.  It should be exciting!

First Day of School

The first day of school was wonderful and exciting.  The day began with an abundance of supplies, once we got those cleared away (I found some expo pens in one bag with tissues, I'm not sure which student that belongs to - and some scissors, glue sticks, pens, and highlighters in another bag, I will give those to the students who ask about them tomorrow - if no one asks me I will ask the students about them) we learned about procedures for arriving to school, turning in work, entering the classroom, getting the teacher's attention, lining up for fire drills etc.  The students completed a questionnaire giving information about some of the things they enjoy which will be used when we make birthday cards for each student.  We took a pre-spelling test and began a math assignment.  There was no homework today, but please return the 1. Acceptable Use Policy, 2. Ethnicity page, and 3. the student information sheet if you have not already done so.

I enjoyed meeting these students, they are fantastic!!!  I can already tell this is going to be a great year.
