This afternoon the principal had a reward for the fifth grade students.  I don't think anyone could hear the movie, but they all got their fill of popcorn. Way to go fifth grade!!!

There was an assembly this afternoon during which the winners of the walk-a-thon were announced.  Our class took first place in money earned and in laps walked.  Yeah!!!  We will have that activity on the 23rd.  Wait to go!!!

reading - we finished the Michelle Kwan story
math - lesson 23 Determining if a fraction is greater than, less than, or equal to 1/2.
science - geological formations formed by volcanoes (and then the power went out)
art - apples
social studies - microscope technology - quick review of explorers; ask your child about Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci, Magellan, and Marco Polo
journal - How can you tell if a number is divisible by 2, 5, or, 10?
I don't know how they did it, but the class was able to sink all of the ships in our battleship game.  Instead of doing another movie right in a row I am changing the order of activities.  The class will earn an extra recess and the opportunity to bring a drink on Friday October 8th.  I will send home a note tomorrow.

The students are doing really well with battleship.  They only need to find the patrol boat.  Wow!  I have never had such a lucky class.
