  • Math - no lesson, just the assignment (I gave the lesson on Friday): Lesson 59
  • Science with Mrs. Bate
  • Journals - read are due
  • Buddy Readers Card - The students are making a holiday card for their buddy reader.
  • Music - as a grade we practiced Jingle Bells on the recorder.  I had been teaching the students to play the songs with F instead of F sharp.  Woops.  We learned of my mistake today and are working to relearn the songs.  Luckily this class is so smart, they were able to pick up the change quickly.
  • Reading - I read with the Jacket group, while other students read a story about a child with some type of job.
  • English - Review Present Tense: Worksheet 5
  • String Art - students are working on a string art project while we listen to Charles Dickens' classic, A Christmas Carol.

  • Storytelling Contest - 2 students from our class will compete in the grade storytelling contest tomorrow after lunch. 
  • Writing - Students spent more time on the Christmas Wish writing prompt.  Remember that by Friday the essay needs to be complete with a score of 21 or better.
  • Reading - I read Tiger Rising with a group, and the other students read short biographies.
  • English - Main Verbs and Helping Verbs: Worksheet 3
  • Social Studies - Finished up working on the Colonists Declare Independence.  The completed booklet is due Friday.

  • Writing - Students began writing to the Christmas Wish prompt in the writing program.  By Friday each student should have a score of 21 or better.
  • Reading - I read Homer P. Figg with a group, the other students read short biographies.
  • English - Review Direct Objects: Worksheet 2 Direct Objects
  • Social Studies - Colonists Declare Independence booklet - due Friday.
Tomorrow is the storytelling contest in our class.  Thursday is the storytelling contest for our grade.

  • Reading - I read with the group reading the Jacket.  The other students read a short biography.
  • English - Review of Action Verbs: worksheet 1 Action Verbs
  • Social Studies - Students were given time to work on their "Colonists Declare Independence" booklet.  Booklet will be due Wednesday - students should be pacing themselves to finish accordingly.

Tomorrow morning the high school choir will perform at an assembly.
Wednesday is the class story-telling contest.

  • Battleship - They earned another activity.  Yeah!
  • Music - Jingle Bells with recorders.  Please bring your recorder to school.
  • Reward Time - students that had all of their work completed had some free time, while the other students worked on missing, late, or absent work.
  • Music - As a whole grade we worked on Silent Night.  It should be neat.
The class storytelling contest will be Wednesday, December 14.  The class winners will compete in the grade storytelling contest Thursday, December 15.  Students are enouraged rather than required to participate.

  • Writing - Today we worked on editing an essay, and listing the reasons in the introductory paragraph.  Students should get at least a 21 on the writing program for the topic regarding the equator and North Pole.  They are able to access this program on-line.  If you get a chance, please have them show you some of the writing they have been doing.

  • English - Sit, Set; Can, May: pg 126 (1-26)
  • Social Studies - Students spent time working on their "Colonists Declare Independence" booklet while I read a book about Lafayette in the Revolutionary War.

  • Reading - The Jacket group and I read together, the other students read a tall tale story and then got to choose what else they would like to read.
  • English - Verb Phrases with Have: pg 122 (1-20)
  • Social Studies - Students presented their grievance pages to the class.  We also discussed events leading up to colonists declaring independence.

  • Writing - Students were expected to complete their persuasive essay on Favorite Time of Year with a score of 21 or better, then make sure all other essays (besides charity) have a score of 18 or better.
  • Reading - As a class we read two stories: Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind, and February (they were both tall tales, lots of fun)
