• Math - turned in Lesson 75 - students took test 14 today 
• Science with Mrs. Bate
• Journals - orange journals were due today: every student is expected to write a journal entry for each school day.
• Spelling - students were expected to sort the spelling words, write the rule, and five sentences using two spelling words per sentence.  Most students finished the assignment in class.
• Writing - Using UtahWrite students were to continue working on a persuasive essay regarding the super skills classes they have each afternoon.  This assignment will be due Thursday. Students will be given time in class to work on the essay tomorrow as well.
• Reading - Students reading Homer P. Figg with me read a couple of chapters.  All other students read a short story about poetry while leaving tracks of their thinking, and then reading a book of their own choice, and leaving tracks of their thinking - due today. This assignment is part of their Independent Work grade.
• English - turned in English page 162 (1-24) - today's topic was What is an Adjective - we are reviewing the unit with a worksheet for each lesson before the unit test. homework is: Worksheet 1 - What is an Adjective - the Writing Application is extra credit - due tomorrow.
• Social Studies - I will be gathering the notebooks to give credit for each year that students have notes.  If they are missing a year between 1775 and 1783 they can borrow a classmate's notebook to get caught up.  Students were able to choose whether they wanted to draw a map of the United States boundaries in 1783 or a narrative about the Treaty of Paris - Today they began working on a team research assignment studying leaders from the American Revolution - We will work more on it tomorrow - the report is due Friday.

• Spelling - students were given a new spelling list today they were expected to sort the list with teacher guidance, and cut out the spelling words.
• Writing - Using UtahWrite students were to begin a persuasive essay regarding the super skills classes they have each afternoon.  This assignment will be due Thursday. Students will be given time in class to work on the essay Tuesday and Wednesday.
• Reading - Students reading The Jacket with me finished their book.  All other students read a short story about poetry while leaving tracks of their thinking, and then reading a book of their own choice, and leaving tracks of their thinking - due today. This assignment is part of their Independent Work grade.
• English - turned in English page 160-161 (1-18) - today's topic was Proper Adjectives - homework is: pg 162 (1-24) due tomorrow.

• Social Studies - We watched an animated video about George Washington: Write five things you already knew that were mentioned in the video, and five things mentioned in the video that you hadn't heard discussed in class.

• Math - Area, Part 1: Lesson 72

• Spelling - Write the word sort in your word study notebook, write the rule and five sentences (each sentence using two different spelling words).
• Writing - Mrs. Sampson taught us a lesson on concluding sentences.
• Reading - I read with Homer P. Figg group while the rest of the class read a story about the Iditarod race.
• English - Articles and Demonstratives: pg 156-157 (1-20)
• Social Studies - We studied the Victory at Yorktown in 1781, and the negotiations taking place in Paris in 1782: Students were given an assignment to compare and contrast the Boston Massacre with the Waxhaw Massacre using a venn diagram.  Each section of the venn diagram needs three great points.
• Art with Mrs. Jones

We were nice and warm in our classroom today.  Yeah!  Please remember that parent teacher conferences are this Wednesday and Thursday.

• Spelling - New spelling lists were handed out today.  We will take the test for this list on Thursday, January 26.
• Writing - We began writing a new persuasive essay.  The topic deals with vacationing in the mountains or on a beach.
• Reading - I read with The Jacket group.  The other students read a short biography and a book of their own choice.
• English - What is an Adjective? : page 152-153 (1-24)
• Social Studies - Students turned in their Valley Forge illustrations and together we read about some events (Waxhaw Massacres, and the Battle of Camden) that occurred in 1780.
• P.E. with Mrs. Lyman

Our classroom has been chilly all day.  It may be a good idea to encourage your child to dress in layers.  The heat hasn't been consistent in our room today.

The school is getting a little warmer, but we had to shift classrooms some of the time.  Tomorrow it will only get better, I hope.
