First Day of School

What an exciting first day!  I'm really looking forward to working with this group of students.   So many of you sent supplies and I want you to know it is very much appreciated. Thank you for all you do.
The following is a brief summary of today's activities:

  • 25 Questions worksheet (each student answered 25 questions about himself/herself - this information will be used for birthday cards made later in the year)
  • Spelling test - I gave the students two spelling pretests, the information gleaned from these tests will help me know where to begin our word study
  • Math - I taught lessons 1 and 2 (homework is only lesson 2).  The first several lessons are review, so we will do 2 lessons a day for about a week.  Students are invited to complete lesson 1, however it is not required.
  • "All About Me" Apple - Students worked with a volunteer to create a 3-dimensional craft that is filled with information about them.
  • Fluency - While the volunteer worked with the students on the graph, I pulled one student at a time to read.  I will be implementing a reading fluency program called Six-Minute Solution and assessing students individually is the first step in the program.  I was able to test about half of the class today.
  • Bus procedures - As a class we reviewed the district's bus rules.
I look forward to seeing everyone again tomorrow!
